Frank
By Lourdes Ferrer-Frank
I was born and raised in San Antonio, Zambales in Brgy. East Dirita and lived there until I
went to college in Manila. I graduated from high school at TRYEI in 1976. I am the third child
of five and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Federico Ferrer, known as Peding and popularly called
Sampaloc or Salamagi. My father was a jeepney driver by profession. The income was very meager
for a family of seven; however I was fortunate enough to get a four-year scholarship in high
school through the generosity of a group of sailors aboard a ship CVA-43 USS San Francisco. I
never met any of them, but I was diligent in writing them a thank you letter at least twice a
year the whole time I was in high school through the mentorship of Ms. Lantin.

My family has been blessed because we have each other. I am blessed to have a loving husband
like Cory. He loves my extended family back home without any reservation. He is humble and
approaches anyone with such sincerity that he easily wins the heart of people, young and old
alike. He is a good dad who is always there for every event my sons are involved in. He has a
compassionate heart and an attitude of a boy scout who always helps when someone is in need. He
is very supportive of San Antonian events and he is always willing to participate when he is able.
This year we are celebrating our 20th year wedding anniversary and I thank God for these
wonderful years we had together. Challenges arise just like any other marriages and families,
but with God as our partner, nothing is impossible.
Id like to close by sharing two of our favorite scriptures:
1) 1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is
faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He
will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
2) Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding. In all your
ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.

My First Flores de Mayo Festival
By Jeremy Frank (15 years old) - 6 June 2006
Sophomore, Westview High School
My brother Brian and I participated in the San Antonian Flores de Mayo festival for the first time last
Mothers Day. I had a fun time being an escort to some of the beautiful Filipina San Antoniain
girls. I wore a Barong Tagalog that I borrowed from my friend. I felt like a real Filipino and I
was able to experience one of the unique and rich traditions of the Philippines. There were
exciting performances and a lot of cool San Antonians. I am proud of having a San Antonian
mother and a dad who encouraged me and my brother to participate. And were glad we did. I look
forward to attending again next year!
