A Visit to Remember

My wife and I went to San Diego, California, to attend their high school reunion on August 22, 2008. Her classmates of 1961 at Luzon Technical Institute came from Hawaii, Las Vegas (Nevada), Pennsylvania and different places in California. Rudy and Juliet Aquisap were the host of their reunion. After all those years they're able to catch up somehow and bonded together. They were not pretty teenagers anymore, rather they're lovely older ladies who have husbands, childrens and grandchildrens to boast about.

Our stay in San Diego was a pleasure. Ely was able to spend time to her friend Juliet Aquisap and relatives. While they were together, I was able to play golf and "gulp" with friends and Acquaintances in different golf courses. I had the chance to teach a little golf lesson to some of them and was glad it helped them someway. Ben Maggay and Oscar Damaso was able to improve their game while I was there and their enthusiasm and progress was enough payment for my time. I hope they'll continue to improve and beat the heck out of me. Thank you to my cousin Marie, Rudy, Ben, and Oscar for driving me back and forth to the golf course, which I sincerely appreciated very much.

I took a break from golf and cousin Manny Flaviano took me deep sea fishing. We had a wonderful time, although I didn't catch a single fish. I was glad I didn't get sea sick. Manny caught a big yellowtail that weighed 15 lbs. 7 ounces. It was good enough for "sashimi" and "sinigang" that was served to their visitors at their seating arangement prior to the dance.

Next was the "Big Night" of the San Antonians dinner and dance. There, we met a lot of town mates we haven't seen forty/fifty years ago. What a small world indeed! T'was an honor of me and my wife to be welcomed so graciously by all the members. I was also requested to sing the U.S. and Philippine National Anthem which was a privilege.

Looking back, I've been a part of the San Antonians after all - I graduated from high school in Masinloc, Zambales, that was founded by Don Pepito Corpuz and my biology teach Ms. Flora Lonzanida were both from San Antonio. I became officially a San Antonian when I met and fell in love with my wife of 41 years, Eleanor Aglibot of (kabugtak) San Antonio. Our town hasn't change much aside for the increased number of tricycles. It is still safe, beautiful and the people remained the same. We all came from the same place and I hope that with your organization, you will not forget the less fortunate townmates of ours.

I am glad that the older generations are passing the torch to the younger one's who will carry the flame and pass it on to the next generation like the Olympic flame that will never die. The secon generation tried their best to be a part of this noble group. To the President Allan Manangan, a young man who graciously granted me the time to express my thoughts about San Antonio, Thanky Mr President!

We finally said goodby to our wonderful cousins and host, as well as the people we met at the picnic. As usual, the Filipinos did not run out of food. It was great!

My wife and I would like to express our thanks and gratitude for you hospitality and considering us a part of the San Antonians.

Best Wishes!
