The September 1st Dinner/Dance and Coronation Night and the September 2nd
Picnic – commemorating the 27th Anniversary of SASDCI was very successful. One felt
the tremendous effort that the officers of the organization have exerted to achieve
this under the combined leadership efforts of President Allan Manangan and Board of
Director Chairman Alice Peregrino.
The dinner/dance and coronation night was attended by approximately 340 people
and the Holiday Inn San Diego – On the Bay has served excellent prime rib dinner
that the guests enjoyed, well worth the $50.00 per person that the guests shelled
out. The ambience of the night was further enhanced by the friendly gathering of
old friends and donors of SASDCI led by the officers and their families as well as
the families of the Candidates: Reyes-Padua, Lacuesta-Paraggua-Abad, and the
Franco-Arlantico Families.
Entertainment for the night was highlighted by the performance
of the LASA Cultural Group led by their President Ferdinand Canonizado
and Dance Director Mar Duque who was also Program Director for the coronation
night along with Alice Peregrino and Mina Maggay. The Fashion Show of Filipiniana
Costumes by the beauteous models made up of the lady officers of SASDCI and other
invited models, like Chester Radoc and the bridal model Michelle Evangelista,
was very much applauded by the audience. The serenade by Dan Gutierrez to the Court
and the Tagalog songs by the Harana Boys of SASDCI were very good.
The high spirits of the evening well spilled over to the following day at the
picnic. Admiral Baker Field was almost like San Antonio. Everywhere and all
corners of our reserved area were filled by the San Antonians! Plenty of food as
usual, with the addition of three lechon: one from Mina Maggay who's retiring in
December; one from the Lacuesta clan who coincided their Family Reunion with our Labor
Day weekend fiesta; and one from Ernie Padua, as a way of showing gratitude to the
overwhelming support of the donors and the San Antonians in the candidacy of his daughter
Queen Marinella.
Beautiful! Outstanding! Successful! ~ were just a few of the
positive remarks thrown at the organizers. So, folks come and join
us again next time. We always have our fiesta during the 3-day Labor Day weekend
in September. We promise you’ll have a "good time."
For this month's update of our web site, consider browsing the gallery for the photo
collection of the two-day fiesta. Also, make sure to click on the YouTube link below
to enjoy the musical talent of Julian "ambo" Duque – the newest phenom from San Antonio,
Zambales. He was featured in The Filipino Channel, as a young talent of Casa San Miguel,
being offered a scholarship to Juilliard School in New York. This very talented young boy's
father Ian Duque, son of the late Dr. Duque, also teaches guitar lessons at the Casa San
Miguel (more of Casa San Miguel next month's update-ed.). Julian Duque is the "apo" of Mar
Duque, Shirley Torres and Remy Soriano – all SASDCI members.

SASDCI Celebration Comments
"We had a good time. Another successful event. Kudos to everyone... Oh btw, no souvenir programs?"
- Marietta Yambao (NORCAL President)
"Everyday was fabulous during our stay there in San Diego. You guys know how to enjoy and drag others to enjoy with you!
...Everything was pleasant! Wonderful job from all of the hard working staff of the organization. You guys deserve... appreciation from all of us!"
- Ladana Bueno Luellen
"Congratulations to you and the rest of your event coordinators. My son and my daughter attended the dinner/dance program and they
said they had so much fun meeting people and watching the coronation process. When that kind of comment comes from young people, I
think something must have been really good! CJ thinks he would love to attend another event and questioned why I am not an active member
of the San Antonians. (Oopss) My sister and I drove my parents to the picnic and the crowd was really overwhelming. You could feel the
warmth and the excitement. Wow, are your picnics always like that? The food was great too. I think it takes a good leader to put up something
like this. Warm regards."
- Myrna Lacuesta Nicolas
"I was happy to hear good comments from our guests. Mrs. Dungca was telling me about her observation during the
mass at the park. She said that everybody participated with reverence and very quiet at the mass compared to
others that she had seen. Another lady guest from Bicol was so impressed with the unity of the group, the
cooperation and most of all the camaraderie of the members and everybody. She said everybody was enjoying and having
fun and so happy to reconnect with friends and relatives. I thought I should share these comments with you. They
are so encouraging. Keep up the good work!"
- Helen Paje
"More appreciation from LA and Norcal. The Yambaos, Luellens, Buenos, Eslavas and more others that
I can't remember their names. Their comments can make your heart jump of happiness. Such as; Very well
organized on the reception line, well decorated, big space, cool and smiling officers and they enjoyed a
lot with the big crowd."
- Marie Flaviano
