SASDCI at its Best
The big project of SASDCI in 2006 was the Book for San Antonio wherein we donated 18 boxes or approximately 3,500 books to the San Antonio public library, elementary and secondary schools. The Books for San Antonio project was well-received back home. Miss Libby de los Reyes, principal of San Gregorio Elementary and soon-to-open public high school, was very appreciative of the donations and mentioned how timely the project was for the new Department of Education policy of "no read-no pass." Ms. De los Reyes also proudly disclosed that San Gregorio Elementary School is a distinguished school in Zambales.

During a short visit to San Gregorio and San Miguel elementary schools early this year, we found out how much the school children are enjoying their books. We were so proud to have been instrumental in this worthy project and we felt the confidence in the children's voices as they practiced their reading skills. According to San Miguel's Principal Ms. Chit Gonong, their schools children are lucky to have generous donors like the San Antonians of San Diego.

Last year, SASDCI also sent 380 READING Glasses to San Antonio dubbed the Clear Vision Project. Because of this, SASDCI will be one of the sponsors of the Medical Mission officially sponsored by the Kababaihan ng San Antonio under the leadership of Dr. Antipolo. The reading glasses were handed over to her son Dr. Arvin Deloso Antipolo, an ophthalmologist with clinics in San Antonio and Manila. Dr. A. Antipolo, recipient of Outstanding San Antonian 2006 award during the San Antonio New Year's Ball for his research and work in his field of work, will be performing cataract operations to indigent kababayans at the end of this month. More than 80 San Antonians will be operated on by Dr. Arvin Antipolo and his colleagues from UST as well as from New York Eye and Ear Infirmary during this Cataract Mission on January 29, 30, 31, and February 1.

For what the year 2007 has in store for SASDCI, do not miss to read Allan Manangan's message in our President's Letter. Under his leadership, we look forward to joining all of you in any programs and projects that are being planned for this year.

To start off the good year... San Antonio was one of the hosts, alongside San Marcelino and San Narciso, during the 10th Annual Fiesta in honor of Ina Poonbato sponsored by the Ina Poonbato - San Diego Chapter held last January 20th at St. John of the Cross Church in Lemon Grove.

T. R. Yangco's Batch '76 Celebrated Pearl Anniversary
2006 DEC 17, San Antonio - They graduated from high school 30 years ago. They came from all over the world: Canada, Dubai, Australia, Chicago, Texas, California, Manila, and of course San Antonio... to converge and renew friendships with old school chums. They did all they could to have the best reunion ever.

From December 15th to 17th - they took hundreds of photos, sang about a hundred karaoke songs, ate an endless array of delectable foods, told numerous stories and jokes... and in the end, the whole trip was worth it. Pundakit was quiet once again after they left... but the memories will stay with them the next 30 years, for sure. (see more photos in the archive)
