Editorial - Recap of the Dinner/Dance

by Chi Padua

That SASDCI friends and supporters would come to the Dinner and Dance was expected. But to have between eight hundred and a thousand members and friends in attendance at the Picnic was overwhelming. It was the biggest gathering of SASDCI we have witnessed. That the attendees, young and old alike, were seen actually having fun was pretty amazing. That the food prepared by the food committee (supplemented by potluck dishes) never ran out - was doubly amazing!

While we have worked hard to prepare for the big night, some things may unexpectedly still go wrong. For those of us who worked behind the scenes – we believe that there is no pleasing every one. If we managed to indulge the beauties and their families; if we managed to delight the guests who flew/drove a few hundred miles; if we managed to teach a few children Philippine folkdance as part of the entertainment and be thrilled in return by the applause of the spectators – then, we did a good job.

While the Recognition Award given to me during the Dinner-Dance was unexpected, I graciously thank those who think I am making a positive contribution. As I have publicly acknowledged in a previous occasion, I do what I can for SASDCI because it's like family. I am grateful for the chance to serve this community.

Lastly, the success of the fundraising and the celebrations last September is a demonstration of the overwhelming support of the people to this organization. Quo vadis SASDCI? As we look forward to the next 25 years, and based on the sentiments of the Officers at their last meeting, SASDCI perceive its future to encompass: continually supporting the Scholarship Program for Disadvantaged San Antonio Students; to keep publishing its bi-annual newsletter – THE SAN ANTONIANS - as an informational tool for activities, announcements, and the association's financial statements; and hopefully, to keep on enhancing its programs in the service of its members and our beloved San Antonio.

Our Thanks...
